Kwame LegendOsagyefo as I am affectionately called by my late grandfather because I was named after the late 1st president of our beloved country Ghana. I believe i was born for greatness, thus my showbiz name, Kwame Legend, which I believe no man has to die before he gets recognition and so always sign out on every show I host with the adage “……be the legend in you!”. My name is Kwame Nkrumah Koomson and I have been in radio currently for five years as at 2016.
I come from a family of six children, being the fourth born to Mr. J.K.E Koomson and Mrs. Comfort Koomson.
I have always had passion for a radio career as I picked traits from my father who is a professional journalist and worked for numerous newspapers, magazines and couple of radio stations in the country.
I had wanted to be a doctor specifically for animals and pets but I realized the passion for radio overshadowed that dream especially when I got admitted to the University Of Cape Coast and had to pursue my radio career.
A breakthrough crossed my path when I got the chance to produce a weekly show for one of my mentors –J.M Caesar of sky power countdown fame and for that period I signed up for basic tutorials in radio at Radioscope.
I elevated my production skills and later added audio production which later got me my first job in radio and through that, I had the chance to learn how to Dj and sit in for shows I produced when the presenter was not available.
I was later able to create two shows which I hosted one live (RnB Nyt Ride) and the other pre- recorded (Top 10 African Chart Show) all broadcasted on Skyy Power Fm. I also learnt on the job how to train my voice to become a voice- over artiste and has recorded and produced countless jingles, station ids, liners, commercials, drops, documentary voices etc.
My biggest breakthrough currently was when I joined Global Media Alliance’s station Y97.9fm in Takoradi and was given the chance to host the primetime morning show (Ryse “n” Shyne – Mondays to Fridays 6am to 9am). And for the past two years and counting has helped to elevate and maintain the show to be one of the most listened to entertainment lifestyle morning show in the Western Region, Ghana. I also host a weekly chart show (Top 10 Hiphop & RnB) on Saturdays at 1pm.

I love music and have always strived to give listeners a bit of my awesomeness every time I come on air and play good music with great on-point talk and I’m proud to be few of the presenters of Yfm Ghana to host on air shows by disc-jockeying (djing), talking and producing them, record, produce hypes, jingles etc for shows and the station. I really love what I do and respect my profession in a sense that I believe being heard on air or grabbing the microphon at any moment in time whether playing music or carrying out a message gives you a whole lot of power to influence lot of people at that moment and can go in a long way to make or unmake someone’s day as well as yourself so.
I am a social media freak as I always hop on my handles (Twitter &Instagram : @kwamelegend Facebook: Kwame Legend & SnapChat: kwame_legend) to check what is trending, posting and researching stuff.
Through the media platforms and career, I have been able to meet and interviewed lot of prominent personalities in various industries and showbiz, from Uncle Ebow Whyte, D-Black, Choirmaster, Criss Waddle, EL, Kofi Kinaata etc.
I take all of these experiences as stepping stones to reach the maximum height in my career.
Radio or media as a whole is lucrative but I also believe in time for everybody to “blow up”; you can be successful or otherwise depending on how well you perceive your personal vision and goals if you want to enter into this industry.
I am a strong believer of the Supreme Being (God) and passion drives me to do what I do best and really thank God for such trait. I currently hold an Advance Diploma (HND) in Human Resource Development from Institute of Commercial Management (ICM-UK) and have completed a degree in Humana Resource Management at Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) this year (2016).
I love music, movies, writes poems, watch and play football, watch animations in printed or motion forms. I am not too selective about foods and woman but both have to be good and satisfying to my senses.
You can tune in to my shows anytime you are in the western region and within the reach of Y 97.9fm’s transmission or via online streaming www.yfmghana.com (Takoradi Tab) Ryse ‘n’ Shyne 6-9am (weekdays) and Top 10 HipHop & RnB 1pm (Saturdays).
My motivation is to be the best I can be and to make at least one person smile listening to my show or hosting an event. I am blessed to have never “worked” one day in my career. If you love what you do, it’s not work. And ooooh! Like I always say”……..be the legend in you…”
